ABOUT
IIT Kharagpur is the fifth best engineering institute in India rated by the NIRF. The core areas of education and research of the institute are Engineering, Management, Law, Architecture, and Humanities. IIT Kharagpur offers 117 courses in 5 areas. IIT Kharagpur campus is the largest among all the IITs in India. The 2100 acre campus houses 22,000 people, including 605 faculty members, 1933 employees, and 10,010 students. The flagship program of the institute is the BTech. The program is specialized in 15 streams and has an intake capacity of 818 seats. To get admission to the flagship program, candidates are required to score a rank in the top 30 percentile in the JEE exam. IIT Kharagpur cutoff for the BTech admission is 200-7000 rank in the JEE Advanced. The per semester fee for the program is INR 1.34 Lacs. The fee is only chargeable to general category students. The institute is well-known for its Law School, Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property (RGSOIPL). IIT Kharagpur is the only IIT that offers Law courses. The school offers three programs; LLB, LLM, and PhD. The LLB program of the School is affiliated with the Bar Council of India. Several of the faculty members at IIT Kharagpur Law school have international publications. The faculty members have received numerous awards as well, and are members of both national and international organizations. The school conducts workshops, clinical, legal courses, courtroom exercises to provide in-house training to the students.

Motto
The motto of IIT Kharagpur is “Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam”. This literally translates to “Excellence in action is Yoga”, essentially implying that doing your work well is (true) yoga. This can be traced to Sri Krishna’s discourse with Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita. The quote, in the larger context of the Gita, urges man to acquire equanimity because a mind of equanimity allows a man to shed distracting thoughts of the effects of his deeds and concentrate on the task before him. Equanimity is the source of perfection in Karmic endeavours that leads to Salvation.

Courses

IIT Kharagpur BTech
IIT Kharagpur BTech program is ranked at 5 in the engineering category of NIRF 2021 rankings. The program has a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1. IIT Kharagpur has a provision where regular students in the BTech program can switch over to the Dual Degree Program at the end of the 3rd year. The institute also has a ‘Semester Away Program and Credit Transfer’ for the BTech students. In this, Students spend one/two semesters at University in India or Abroad. The credits earned during this period are transferred towards the degree completion

IIT Kharagpur GATE 2022

The organizing institute of GATE 2022 is IIT Kharagpur (IITKGP). The syllabus for GATE 2022 has been released by the institute with no new changes in it. However, two new syllabi have been added for the newly introduced subjects- Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (NM) and Geomatics Engineering (GE). Candidates must go through the GATE 2022 syllabus to begin their preparation on time.

IIT Kharagpur MTech
The MTech program at IIT Kharagpur is available in 47 specializations. Along with the MTech program, the institute also offers a Joint MTech/MCP-PhD program. Admission to all MTech programs is primarily based on the GATE exam. However, Non-GATE students with a CGPA of 8.0 are given direct admission to the institute. Candidates who have completed their BTech degrees from IITs may also be admitted to the MTech program. The total fee for the program is INR 4.60 Lacs. Students who participate in the recruitment cycle after completing their degrees earn an average salary package of INR 20 LPA. 

For the Joint MTech/MCP-PhD program, the institute allows candidates to enroll in the PhD program immediately after the second semester of the MTech program. Candidates completing the MTech/MCP program graduate with a doctorate degree.

IIT Kharagpur PhD
IIT Kharagpur offers a PhD program in 4 categories. The categories divided are Regular PhD with Institute Assistantship, PhD Fellowship, Sponsored PhD, and PhD through the sponsored Research Project. A candidate with a master’s degree in the relevant discipline, 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5, and a valid score in GATE/ NET/ CSIR/ UGC/ SLET are eligible to apply. Admission is offered on the basis of a Department-Based Test followed by Academic Performance and Work Experience and Interview. 

IIT Kharagpur Placements
IIT Kharagpur concluded its 2022 placement drive with 1600 placement offers. The number of offers increased by nearly 23.07%. The highest salary package inceased by 200% compared to the last year. The placement drive engaged 245+ recruiters. Major recruiters included Google, Microsoft, Honeywell, Micron Technology and many more.

IIT Kharagpur Scholarships
IIT Kharagpur provides financial assistance to needy and meritorious students to lessen their academic burden. A variety of schemes are available for the students at IIT Kharagpur through alumni members, private organizations, Govt. of India, and the Institute itself. • Merit cum Means Scholarship: IIT Kharagpur offers MCM scholarships to about 1000 students each year on the basis of their JEE rank and family income. Students enrolled in the UG programs of IITKGP are eligible to avail the facility of fee waivers under this scholarship scheme. The renewal of the MCM scholarship is subject to the performance of the students in the last two consecutive semesters. 
• Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Full Scholarship: IIT Kharagpur offers India’s first full-ride scholarship to the top 100 JEE Advanced Rankers whose annual parental income is less than INR 20 lakhs. The scholarship covers the entire academic expense of the B.Tech students at IIT Kharagpur. 
• Institute SC/ST Scholarship: This assistantship is especially provisioned for the SC/ST students enrolled in the 2-year M.Sc program. The students whose annual parental income is less than INR 50,920 are entitled to get free hostel seats, a basic menu in mess, and a monthly pocket allowance of INR 250. 
• Endowment Scholarships: The institute offers several endowment scholarships through its endowment funds. The UG or dual degree students are awarded one scholarship of INR 1000 per month for the consecutive 10 months based on their merits in the previous semesters or 1st-year performances. Schemes such as B.P Poddar Scholarship, Puri Memorial Scholarship, ABS Scholarship, Kumud Manorama Scholarship, etc., and many more are included. 

IIT Kharagpur Faculty
IIT Kharagpur has a bunch of hardworking and knowledgeable professors from reputed institutions. For every 13 students, there is 1 teacher i.e, the student/faculty ratio is 13:1 with a total of 841 faculty members. The entire faculty of IIT Kharagpur is very experienced and well versed in their subject matter.
